Supervision as Sanctuary: Integrative Reflections from an IFS Supervisor
In the ever-evolving landscape of therapeutic practice, supervision is not merely a space for oversight—it’s a sanctuary for reflection, growth, and relational depth. Trained Clinical Supervisor with CPCAB L6, IFS Consultant, Certified by the IFSI at L2 in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Level 1), and Polyvagal-informed Trauma work where I have worked in consultation with Lead Educator Bob Falconer IFS on legacy, unattached and cultural burdens, and Guides, inclusive of ongoing training and consultation with IFS founder Dick Schwartz.
I offer supervision that honours both the complexity of clinical work and the soulful presence of the therapist.
A Multi-Lens Approach: Seven Eyed Model Meets IFSMy supervision is grounded in Robin Shohet’s Seven Eyed Model, a relational and systemic framework that invites us to explore therapy through multiple lenses—from the client’s process to the wider field. This model dovetails beautifully with the IFS Eight Facets of Supervision and Consultancy, which bring a compassionate, parts-informed lens to the supervisory relationship.
Together, these frameworks allow us to:
-
Witness the therapist’s internal system with curiosity and care
-
Explore transference and countertransference as relational echoes
-
Attend to the wider systemic and cultural field influencing the work
-
Cultivate the therapist’s Self-energy as a healing presence
Somatic Wisdom and Nervous System LiteracySupervision also draws on my training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Polyvagal Theory. These approaches help us attune to the body’s story—its gestures, impulses, and autonomic patterns. Whether we’re exploring a therapist’s freeze response in a challenging session or tracking subtle shifts in co-regulation, somatic awareness deepens our understanding and fosters embodied resilience.
Supervision as Co-CreationI view supervision as a co-creative process—one that blends clinical rigour with emotional resonance. It’s a space where therapists can:
-
Reflect on their practice with safety and spaciousness
-
Explore ethical dilemmas with clarity and compassion
-
Reconnect with their own vitality and purpose
-
Receive attuned feedback that honours their unique style
I welcome you into a space that is both structured and soulful providing the space for reflexivity.
